Media Monday: Die Bücherdiebin and enjoying a style of writing

Media Monday is a feature I post every two weeks where I discuss an interesting word or phrase (or sentence or paragraph) from what I’m reading.

We’re back into another (shorter) round of the Tadoku contest, so I’m trying to catch up on the reading a little bit – not that it’s easy or is happening in earnest, but it’s the trying that counts.

I’m still reading Die Bücherdiebin, even though I went to see the film a couple of weeks ago (and loved it!), so this week I’ve literally just picked out two quotes because I love the way Zusak writes and think they’ve translated really well.

Media Monday: Die Bücherdiebin and the German Imperative

Media Monday is a feature I post every two weeks where I discuss an interesting word or phrase (or sentence or paragraph) from what I’ve been reading or watching.

Since I’ve finished reading Harry Potter and The Book Thief has only just come out here (literally, last Wednesday!), I’ve been trying to read that in German. I’m 10% in, so it’s not exactly going quickly, but there’s one verb form I keep coming across that I’m just terrible at using. It’s the imperative.

Media Monday: Anglicisms in Harry Potter

Media Monday is a feature I post every two weeks where I discuss an interesting word or phrase (or sentence or paragraph) from what I’ve been reading or watching.

So with Tadoku finishing a few days ago, I’ve still been reading Harry Potter und der Feuerkelch so this is another German day for you all. I’ll get to another language eventually ;).

Something that’s interesting me at the moment, because it’s coming up in some of my uni work, as well as in my everyday reading, are the amount of words in German that seem to have English roots. My post today, then, has something to do with that. Continue reading “Media Monday: Anglicisms in Harry Potter”

Media Monday: ZDF Interview with Obama

Media Monday is a feature I post every two weeks where I discuss an interesting word or phrase (or sentence or paragraph) from what I’ve been reading or watching.

So it’s still Tadoku time, even though I’ve slowed down somewhat, and I was looking for some information for an essay the other day when I ended up on the tagesschau website and read an article about the interview a ZDF journalist (Kleber) had with President Obama.
